Vitamin C has biological effects that may be more widespread than any other nutrient. Vitamin C is a cofactor of many enzymes and is an antioxidant. The highest levels of vitamin C can be found in the brain and the adrenal glands where vitamin C is involved in the synthesis of glutathione and cortisol respectively. Many doctors consider vitamin C to be one of the most important stress vitamins.

Buffered ascorbic acid is combined with calcium ascorbate, magnesium ascorbate, and potassium ascorbate to create a form of vitamin C that is pH neutral. Making ascorbic acid pH neutral lessens gastric upset in sensitive individuals.
